July 2019 President's Letter -
Pierre Tibi, MD

It is a bittersweet moment to be writing my last “President’s Letter”, as my tenure as President of our society is coming to an end at our Annual Meeting in Baltimore this September.  I am truly humbled to have been chosen for this role and am very proud of the major advancements we have made not only for our organization but towards establishing PBM as a worldwide endeavor in medicine.

During the past couple of years, with the assistance of our management company, Ardent Consulting, we have become a permanent fixture in International Anaesthesiology Research Society (IARS) with our own journal section. We have developed a formal association with the Network for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis (NATA) to develop PBM as a global initiative. We are participating in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) blood conservation guidelines update to be published within the year.  We are educating organizations worldwide on PBM and have multiple mutually beneficial joint ventures with industry to promote PBM.  This names only a few of the SABM initiatives.  None of these steps could have been achieved without the dedication of members such as you who are passionate about patients and evidenced-based medicine. The devotion of our members, especially those that serve on committees, drives our existence, growth and raison d’etre.

Additionally, as you all well know, even important work requires financial support and I am proud to say that donations to SABM are at an all-time high. Economic stability assures that we will continue to be the leading voice for PBM and benefit patients all over the globe. Therefore, I want to extend heart-felt gratitude to all who have donated.  For those of you who have not yet contributed, please consider a donation.  Any amount is greatly appreciated and used to advance the SABM mission.

I truly look forward to our Annual Meeting in Baltimore as I believe it will once again break all records given the fantastic program and the growing thirst for knowledge in PBM.

In closing, I would like to thank you all for the great honor and privilege of serving as your President.

Respectfully,

Pierre R. Tibi MD
