Our global partners from the Network for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis (NATA) in collaboration with the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG), and the European Society of Anaestheiology (ESA), have published an outstanding consensus guideline for use by our clinical colleagues who manage the perinatal care of women. With review of the most recent literature and use of the GRADE method, this publication stands as one of the most comprehensive manuscripts on current PBM practice in this patient population.
The European guideline on management of major bleeding and coagulopathy following trauma: Fifth edition Authors: Donat R Spahn, Bertil Bouillon, Vladmir Cerny, Jacques Duranteau, Daniela Filipescu, Beverly J. Hunt, Radko Komadina, Marc Maegele, Giuseppe Nardi, Louis Riddez, Charles-Marc Samama, Jean-Louis Vincent, and Rolf Rossaint
Globally, trauma remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Recent research and innovative care interventions have lead to improved outcomes, yet management of the severely injured patient, whether in the combat or civilian arena, is challenging. The publication from the EU Task Force for Advanced Bleeding Care in Trauma provides evidence-based guidance which incorporates a multidisciplinary and multifaceted approach to managing traumatic hemorrhage and coagulopathy. Consideration, incorporation and adherence to these principles should become a part of our Patient Blood Management programs, potentially increasing survival and improving overall outcomes.
SABM wishes to thank these groups for these significant additions to the PBM literature.
