SABM Spotlight

It is with great excitement that SABM can spotlight the diligent and extensive work of the TAXI collaboration.

TAXI International Working Group
TAXI International Working Group

The 42 TAXI experts, representing the fields of pediatric critical care, pediatric cardiology, pediatric hematology and oncology, pediatric transfusion medicine, pediatric surgery and pediatric anesthesiology, from 29 academic institutions, across 8 countries, developed and reached consensus on 102 recommendations.  These 102 recommendations, 57 clinical (20 evidence-based, 37 expert-consensus based), and 45 research, were developed across the following nine sub-populations of critically ill children: red blood cell transfusion in critically ill children in general, and with acute respiratory failure, non-hemorrhagic shock, acute brain injury, heart disease, sickle cell and oncologic diagnoses as well as receiving support from extracorporeal membrane oxygenation/ventricular assist/renal replacement support and receiving alternative processing of red blood cell products.  The TAXI consensus recommendations and 11 supporting manuscripts, describing the methodology, the rationale for the recommendations, as well as the implementation plans are currently in publication in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
