Letter from the President
Dear SABM members,
I would like to expand on Dr. Burns’ welcome. As already stated, our Annual Meeting in Brooklyn, New York, under the guidance of Dr. Aryeh Shander and Ms. Sherri Ozawa was a resounding success! It broke all previous records for attendance, certificate awardees, sponsor support and international attendance.
Nevertheless, our work in making Patient Blood Management instituted universally is far from over. As we all know, whether it is the need for better outcomes, cost-effective medical care, patient safety, supply limitations or lack of hemovigilance, there is a worldwide need for dissemination and implementation of PBM principles. In recognition of this, special focus was placed on the global realm of PBM at our recent meeting. We had attendance from over a dozen countries, but more importantly it became the setting for collaboration of many blood management societies to confer regarding the worldwide initiatives that need to be carried out.
I am extremely excited about this mission since I believe it raises the importance of the shifting paradigm of blood management with the patient as the priority. We should all feel proud to commit our time and efforts to this cause, or as some might call it, a movement in medicine. And therefore, it goes without saying, I thank you and humbly ask you to continue with your support of SABM.
We are doing something very important!
Respectfully,
Pierre R. Tibi, MD President
